The Beer Connoisseur started life as a great hard copy magazine exploring the world of beer. These days the magazine is still as good as ever, except now it has also expanded into a world-class online resource for beer and everything beer related! In this article we’ll look at this amazing publication and all the different ways it explores the wonderful world of beer!

Blogs
As an enthusiastic beer writer (and drinker), the blogs on the Beer Connoisseur website provide me with endless hours of enjoyment. The blogs are a mix of professional writers and user generated articles that cover pretty much anything related to beer (but obviously not as well as winningbeers.com)!
These blogs cover pretty much everything you can imagine from the origins of beer to the health benefits of moderate beer consumption. I read these articles regularly as I really enjoy hearing different angles and perspectives on anything to do with beer!
A particular favourite of mine is the article Utepils: The Norwegian Word for the Art of Alfresco Drinking. This article talks about the heritage, tradition and modern day practices of beer drinking in Norway. I enjoyed this article because I knew literally nothing about beer in Norway. Definitely worth a read.
The Directory
The directory is another great feature of The Beer Connoisseur. The directory helps you to find breweries, taprooms, bars, meaderies, home brew suppliers, restaurants and much MUCH more. Business featured are mainly based in the US but is growing everyday – check back regularly to see the latest entries
The directory on The Beer Connoisseur’s website is a great resource if you’re in a new city looking for somewhere to drink a great beer. Although it’s not just about beers, I’ve found some great hotels and restaurants there too! When you’re planning your next holiday why not check it out to see if you can find some great places to stay, eat and drink.
The Magazine
As well as having brilliant user submitted blogs, The Beer Connoisseur has an amazing magazine written by their staff writers. If you want the latest news on beer and the beer industry, this magazine is for you.
The magazine is online except for their yearly print special which hits newsstands on the 1st of January. Of course, if you have a subscription, this will be delivered straight to your home or workplace. I love the yearly paper edition. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but I think there’s something special about a hard copy magazine in the age of digital media!

Buyers Club
One of my favourite things about The Beer Connoisseur is the buyers club. This club is accessed through the website via a third party app and gives subscribers to buy rare and delicious beers. The Beer Connoisseur gives members exclusive information on where and when these rare beers will be available through their mailing list, website and eNewsletter.
Once you have bought your delicious beer you can partake in members only tastings in the live streamed happy hours and other events. At these events you can connect with likeminded beer enthusiasts and be sure that you are getting a great deal on hard to find beers.
The Beer Connoisseur buyers club has also expanded to include spirits. Much the same as the beer buyers club you will receive exclusive offers and buying events when you sign up (for free) to the spirit club. The spirit club allows you to stock your home bar with some of the highest quality, rare spirits at a fraction of the usual retail price.
Reviews
The Beer Connoisseur magazine has long been a trusted source of beer reviews. Adhering to a strict single blind methodology, the magazine and website has been providing reviews from industry professionals for many years. The reviewers come from a variety of jobs within the beer and beverage industry.
You can even submit your own brew to be professionally judged. All you need to do is sign up for their tier 1 trade subscription (a level reserved for individuals and businesses in the beverage industry) and you can submit your beer to be judged. If your beer is good enough, you may even win one of their awards. The awards given by the reviewers are highly sought after in the drinks industry in the US and beyond.
Aside from reviewing beers, there are awards also given for many other categories such as best restaurant, bar, brewpub, brewery etc. All of these resources are available on their website and access is enhanced through one of their memberships.
